Acting Governor of Idaho Scott Bedke was one of three Idaho political officials to express their condolences for those affected by the US Ecology explosion in Grand View, Saturday morning.

Bedke referenced his hope that an investigation into Saturday's accident will provide further answers to the situation.

“I want to deliver my deepest condolences to all who were impacted by Saturday’s accident at US Ecology,” Acting Governor Bedke said. “We know US Ecology, their employees, and first responders have worked tirelessly in the aftermath of this event. As the investigation continues, more answers will be available. As for now, we are focused on the needs of employees and the Grand View community. ”

In his statement, Senator Bert Bracket touched on the positive impact that US Ecology had had on the nearby economy.

“Our hearts go out to the people of Grand View today, particularly to the family and friends of Alex Green,” Senator Brackett said. “It is understandably a very difficult time for the employees at US Ecology, first responders, and for the community here in Grand View. US Ecology has been a revitalizing entity for the region’s economy and provides opportunity for so many in our District. It is truly heartbreaking to know some residents will not be able to return to their jobs as usual on Monday.”

And, Representative Megan Blanksma included a personal memory of the site in her statement.

“My sincerest sympathies go out to Mr. Green’s family and friends,” Representative Blanksma said. “US Ecology has had a positive impact in our region as an employer for many in Owyhee and Elmore Counties. Touring their site as part of my legislative duties and speaking with their executives and employees, I have experienced first-hand their unending commitment to safety. This has been a tragic accident. My focus is on helping residents cope with loss while working with authorities as investigations into the accident continue.”

Bedke is in the position of acting governor of Idaho, during Governor Butch Otter's absence.

According to a release, Otter is leading an Idaho business and investment mission in Taiwan, through Tuesday.
