Tariff reprieve for auto?: The markets are celebrating the temporary pause in the US tariff levy. US President Donald Trump Trump said he might be considering a modification to 25% tariffs imposed on foreign auto and auto parts imports from Mexico, Canada and other places. Trump said he was considering the move as the car companies “need a little bit of time because they’re going to make ’em here.”
Strong cues from Asia: Asian markets gave a thumbs up to the news and opened higher this morning, mirroring the upbeat mood from Wall Street’s tech-led rally. Japan and Australia opened in the green, and South Korea’s main index also moved up, though smaller tech stocks there showed some weakness. "For the Bank Nifty, after a correction, it rebounded sharply and is currently trading near the 200-day SMA. For trend-following traders, the 200-day SMA, or levels around 51,000 and 50,500, would act as key support areas for the bulls. As long as it remains above these levels, the bullish sentiment is expected to continue. On the upside, it could retest the range of 51,800 to 52,500. However, if it falls below 50,500, the chances of reaching levels of 50,200 to 50,000 would increase," said Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities.
The markets jumped as soon as they opened in Tuesday's trade, after observing a holiday. The Nifty 50 soared 1.81% or 413.35 points to open at 23,241.90 while the Sensex leapt 1,509.88 points or 2% at 76,667. The Nifty Midcap 100 opened the session 788.85 points or 1.56% higher at 51,290. There was not a single stock trading in the red in the Nifty 50.
"Considering the breadth of the market, we believe it has likely experienced its worst phase for at least the medium term. The strategy should focus on buying on dips around support levels," said Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities.
If the markets cross and close above 23,800 levels, it would indicate a potential move towards higher targets, which would ultimately test the strength of the long-term market trend.
