Stock Market Today: Sensex, Nifty rise for 3rd day on gains in HDFC Bank, Reliance
Stock Market Today: The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 147.79 points to settle at 75,449.05. The NSE Nifty increased 73.30 points to 22,907.60.

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex gained 147.79 points to close at 75,449.05 on March 19, 2025, Wednesday. The NSE Nifty increased 73.30 points to end at 22,907.60. The benchmark indices ended on a positive note due to heavy buying in market heavyweights L&T, HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries amid fresh foreign fund inflows.
There was some pressure on the stock market as selling was recorded in blue-chip IT stocks ahead of the US Fed policy decision.
The 30-share Sensex pack gainers included, State Bank of India, Reliance Industries, Power Grid, UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, Zomato, IndusInd Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Adani Ports, and NTPC. Laggards included, ITC, Nestle, Infosys, Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Maruti, and HCL Tech.
The 30-share barometer climbed 172.43 points to 75,473.69 in early trade today. The broader Nifty went up 54 points to 22,888.30. The stock markets kickstarted the trade on a positive note tracking firm trends in Asian equities and fresh foreign fund inflows. However, later selling was reported in blue-chip IT stocks, which put some pressure on the markets as the benchmark indices turned volatile later in the trade. The 30-share barometer quoted 49.35 points higher at 75,350.61, and the Nifty traded 35.45 points up at 22,867.65.
“The domestic market continued its positive momentum, as part of the recent correction was justified by valuation. The sustainability of the relief rally depends on a revival in fundamentals. The recovery was broad-based, while metal stocks gained attention after the government decided to impose a tax on steel imports.
“In light of trade uncertainties and growth concerns, today’s FED policy and the commentary will be keenly watched by investors to get cues on interest rates,” Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said.
Hong Kong and Seoul settled in the positive territory, while Shanghai and Tokyo closed lower. The US stock markets ended in the negative zone on Tuesday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude slipped 0.30 per cent to USD 70.35 a barrel.
According to the exchange data, Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth Rs 694.57 crore on March 18. Domestic Institutional Investors (DII) also bought equities worth Rs 2,534.75 crore.
The Sensex rallied 1,131.31 points to close at 75,301.26 on Tuesday. The Nifty gained 325.55 points to 22,834.30.
