U.K. industrial output hits lowest level since May 2020
(MENAFN) The UK's manufacturing output decreased in January, marking its lowest percentage since May 2020, based on data published on Friday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The index decreased by 0.9 percent on a monthly basis, changing December’s 0.5 percent growth, with industrial production falling by 1.1 percent as well as mining and quarrying fall 3.3 percent, ONS stated.
"The monthly decrease in manufacturing output was driven by declines in nine of 13 subsectors, particularly in basic metals and metal products (-3.3%), other manufacturing and repair (-3.3%), and pharmaceuticals (-3.1%)," it also stated.
For the three months to January 2025, manufacturing output decreased 0.9 percent in comparison with the last three-month term, hitting the ninth sequential quarterly decrease.
