04/18/2024
The investment will include a new chip manufacturing facility scheduled for production in 2026. In addition, the company will construct a research and development center scheduled for operations in 2027.
“We’re not just expanding production facilities; we’re strengthening the local semiconductor ecosystem and positioning the U.S. as a global semiconductor manufacturing destination.” said Samsung Semiconductor CEO Kye Hyun Kyung. “To meet the expected surge in demand from U.S. customers, for future products like AI chips, our fabs will be equipped for cutting-edge process technologies and help bring security to the U.S. semiconductor supply chain.”
The project is being supported by $6.4 billion in direct funding under the CHIPS and Science Act.
“Just over two years ago here at the Governor's Mansion, I was proud to celebrate Samsung’s new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor,” noted Governor Greg Abbott. “We are now building on that initial investment to make Texas the premier semiconductor hub in America. Samsung's investment of over $40 billion will help cement Texas’ position as the No. 1 state for semiconductors, bringing in more business investment to Texas communities and creating thousands of good-paying jobs in our great state. The future is full of microchips, and we’re proud that some of the world’s most advanced chips will be Made in Texas.”
In 2021, Samsung announced that it would build a $17 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor.
