FBI: Hoax threats toward schools on the increase in New Mexico
Officials with the Federal Bureau of Investigation say hoax threats to schools in New Mexico are on the increase. According to the Albuquerque FBI Division, there have been 19 reported threats to schools in the first six months of 2022. In 2021, there were only two in the same time period. Hoax threats often disrupt schools and often waste the resources of law enforcement. The FBI reminds everyone that issuing a threat on any medium such as social media, text message, or through e-mail is considered a federal crime. The FBI says anyone who hears of any threat, sees anything suspicious, or knows of someone who is planning to commit violence should call 911 or call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
