Four people, including a 7-year-old child, were rescued from a sinking boat in the ocean.
The rescues happened Sunday off the coast of Nahant, Massachusetts.
Police and the harbormaster said the boat started taking on water about a mile offshore.
A good Samaritan ended up picking up on the people on board and bringing them to safety.
Police said rough water was a real problem.
“It can be very dangerous, especially if not everyone is prepared with life preservers and signaling devices on the boat. They were fortunate. They did have life preservers on the boat and there was, as I said, good Samaritans in the area that could help them out,” Lt. Steven Shultz, of the Nahant Police Department, said.
Police believe a large wave might have overtaken the boat, but they are still investigating what happened.
