Dr. Omotola Bamigbaiye’s inspirational book, titled, ‘Imperfectly Awesome: Embracing and Becoming a Wholesome You’ was launched recently in Lagos. In the book, written in an honest, relatable tone, the author shares the story of how she helped people to love, reinvent themselves and bloom – just the way they were designed to do.

“Adulting can be chaotic. But it can also be a hilarious and thrilling ride. From career expectations to motherhood, relationships, and the nagging whispers of imposter syndrome, there’s always something to grapple with. The world may only play off-tune beats, but you can create your rhythm and dance to it gracefully…or however else you please,” the author writes in the book.

More than just a book, it is a rallying cry for anyone who has ever felt inadequate, struggled with imposter syndrome, or lost in the corporate world. With its relatable narrative and practical advice, the book is a source of inspiration, hope and comfort for readers on their journey towards self-love and fulfilment.

Bamigbaiye says the book is about building one’s own ladder, one rung at a time, with laughter, tears, and maybe a little lipstick smeared on the way. It is embracing the unexpected and realising that you are ‘good enough’ even when the circumstances surrounding your life say otherwise. ‘Balance’, she says, is a tricky act one gets better at everyday.

“Imperfectly Awesome” is about learning to love yourself and embracing the messy, beautiful chaos that is life, that pitfalls exist and we’re all a little flawed and need more help than we sometimes admit.” She advises everyone to build their resilience table, do what works for one and do away with anything that no longer serves one unapologetically.

She reminds everyone that there is no manual for teaching how to navigate the world of work or life in general, but that it is easier to learn from other people’s experiences. You should gain wisdom, avoid pitfalls, become unapologetic about your existence, own your mistakes and become equipped to run your life’s course better.

Among the attendants of the book launch were notable figures from various walks of life, including President of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Idorenyen Enang; filmmaker and MD of Zuri 24 Media, Femi Odugbemi and others.

Among the panelists who provided valuable insights into the theme of the book were Managing Director at Rock Realty Limited, Dr. Ibukun Adebayo; Director of Chapel Hills Denham Nigeria, Rewa Udoji and Head of Learning and Development Division at FITC Nigeria, Dr. Esther Olasunkanmi.

A Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Dr. Bamigbaiye is a senior executive with over 20 years of Category/Marketing Management and Customer & Shopper Marketing experience. She is currently the Marketing & Innovations Director at pladis Global. Before that, she was the Marketing Manager Innovations at Guinness Nigeria Plc, Marketing Manager (West Africa) at Reckitt Benckser (RB) and was also Head of Trade Marking at Unilever Nigeria.
