Algeria breaks ground on first project of 2 GW solar programme
Mar 26, 2024 11:17 CESTThe deadline for submitting offers in Algeria's 1-GW solar photovoltaic (PV) auction has been extended once again to a date which is expected to be announced this week.
The call for tenders was to end on June 15 but was extended following a request by local and international investors who need more time to conduct detailed financial and technical studies, state-owned Algerian Renewable Energy Company (Shaems) said last week.
Under the initial plan, the deadline was set for April 30 but was extended by 45 days at the beginning of April.
Algeria launched the auction for the 1-GWp scheme at the end of December, targeting the allocation of capacity in lots of between 50 MW and 300 MW. As many as 11 sites have already been selected for the solar plants.
By the middle of May, a total of 111 investors from 15 countries had expressed interest in participating in the auction, as the Secretary-General of Algeria's Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy Mahama Bouziane said last month.
